Nepal Country Profile
WRT Nepal Country Profile
Nepal is one of the most vulnerable countries to the impacts of climate change. Melting glaciers have led to increased flooding, while at the same time climate variability has decreased water availability for households, agriculture and industry. Climate change is estimated to impact hydroelectricity generation in Nepal by an amount equivalent to 0.1% of gross domestic product per year, while disasters such as landslides, floods and avalanches have repeatedly devastated areas of the country.
To understand the state and extent of water and climate integration into Nepal’s national climate change and water resources policies and plans, the Water Resilience Tracker tool was applied to climate and water resources policies and plans under the leadership and coordination of the Government of Nepal’s Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS).
This study presents an overview of the country context in Nepal, national policies and plans, how the Water Resilience Tracker was applied, the results of its application and the next steps for our collaboration with the government of Nepal.
