Gender, Equality and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Strategy
The Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Strategy of the Water Resilience Tracker (WRT) supports the effective, inclusive implementation of the Tracker across national planning processes.
It provides a practical framework for ensuring that the design, delivery, and monitoring of water-climate strategies are responsive to the needs, priorities, and capacities of women, youth, persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, and other marginalized groups.
The challenge
Climate change does not affect everyone equally. Climate impacts are amplified by existing inequalities—particularly those related to gender, age, ability, caste, ethnicity, and economic status. What is missing is a practical, action-oriented strategy that links inclusion with effective resilience.
The Water Resilience Tracker provides an entry point to embed GEDSI principles across water and climate decision-making processes. As countries integrate water into their national climate strategies, WRT can:
Equip governments with tools to design inclusive, climate-resilient policies;
Foster meaningful participation of underrepresented groups in planning and decision-making;
Support the development of equitable governance systems that improve outcomes for all;
Identify institutional barriers and co- develop solutions that reflect diverse knowledge systems.
Our guiding questions
How can water and climate policies better respond to the lived realities of women and marginalized groups?
How can we ensure that adaptation and mitigation do not reinforce existing inequalities?
What would it take for climate action to challenge— not replicate-power imbalances?
How can the knowledge, voices, and leadership of marginalized communities shape national planning?
Our GEDSI Vision
Climate-resilient water systems that are inclusive, equitable, and grounded in the voices, rights, and priorities of all people -especially women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
Our GEDSI Mission
To support governments in integrating GEDSI principles into national climate planning by embedding inclusive principles, tools, and practices across water resilience strategies.
